Musica Viva Singers began rehearsing in 1997 with Brian Cameron in the basement of Glebe-St. James United Church, with far too many altos, far too few tenors and no pianist. Within a year, we had a name and were ready to entertain an enthusiastic audience. Toward the end of the fifth year, Brian's untimely and tragic death in 2002 almost marked the end of our story (view obituary, PDF). Two of Brian's close colleagues, Matthew Larkin and Gordon Johnston graciously stepped in and directed the remaining rehearsals. Gordon directed the April concert. But voices that sing together stay together, and James Calkin, a bright young organist and choir director, had arrived in Ottawa. And so began the next chapter in our history. Musica Viva has also benefited from the talents of Stephen Candow who was our interim director for our spring 2008 session. We have begun a new chapter with our current director, Marg Stubington who joined us in September 2008. Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious and has helped us increase our audience base. A number of our choristers have been with us since the beginning. Many advertisers and sponsors, and certainly our audience have been with us along the way too - - and for that we sincerely thank you and hope you enjoy our next concert.
